Mr Gerald Dickens
Hats off (well Boaters) to the great, great,
grandson of the Great man, as this was one of
the most unique happenings we’ve had at a
Pickwick function. It was such perfection
which was ideal for our special event.
“We thank you for your few kind words”
The President took to the floor to invite former Treasurer Jack Martin (John Mist) to
come forward and receive his Honorary Life Member Medal for his sterling efforts of 17
years. Then the Chelsea Pensioners wheeled in the Joseph Atto Punch Bowl to introduce
themselves & take wine with the President.

It was time then to change the tone as we
welcomed another old friend, Ian Irving,
who had been able to accommodate us in
spite of the two year delay of the original
booking. We last had the pleasure of his
company back in 2014, and we weren’t
disappointed to see him again. An
accomplished raconteur he was as amusing
as ever with some old, & some new stories
that held his audience without interruption
- which was just as well, as his sharp wit
would have picked up on comments Ian Irving takes control
wherever they occurred in the room.
