Once again we must report the passing of friends……
Sadly we have lost three members this year, so we remember them for their contributions to
the Club, and your Secretary has written to their families to offer condolences on behalf of
the Club.

member by age. Always remembered for his ride in the GB 1000metres team at the 1952
Helsinki Olympic Games (coming within 2 secs of the world record at the time) A member
since 1990.
Michael Rumbold - Mr Staples (retired) - joined the Pickwick BC in 1986.
Derek Pendry - Blink (retired) - joined the Club in 2005, was President in 2011 and our

Horsham Museum………more strange machines
In the October ’21 magazine, I included an article
about the 5-wheeled Pentacycle in the Horsham Town
Museum, and promised to find some more interesting
items. This time it’s an early 20th century Tricycle
with Spring Tyres. According to the description -
“There were numerous attempts to solve the problem
of vibration. One solution was to the fitting of spring
tyres, but sadly it did not catch on.
Although pneumatic tyres were widely available, by
the time this machine was made, the spring tyre was
used in Germany during WW1, due to a shortage of
rubber.”
Will this item provoke some interesting comments
from our members, I ask?
