        Your Captain has some

            words for you…….

    Dear Fellow Pickwickians,

I want to start this Captain’s words by paying tribute to Sgt Buzfuz our Club Secretary
for the past twenty years, who has recently retired and emigrated to Australia to live closer
to his daughter. Buzfuz has done a wonderful job for our Club over the last twenty years,
always keeping a calm head and steering our club along smoothly. It really has been a
privilege to work alongside Stephen Downham on the Club’s committee. Stephen has been an
outstanding Club member and on behalf of all Club members,I wish to say thank you and wish
you a great new life in Australia.

I do hope that my fellow Pickwickians have enjoyed a lovely summer with all the great
weather we have had and are now looking forward to all the events planned by your club for
    the rest of this year.

At the recent Presidents luncheon in May, the standard of behaviour was totally
unacceptable. It has always been the case, that when people speak or try to entertain
members and guests, quiet is required. Sadly this did not happen. Whether this was because
Ladies were present and maybe the men were showing off, I don’t know, but can I remind
members that firstly, they and their guests must listen to all instructions given and be quiet
when people are speaking or entertaining them. As already mentioned, in May when the Brick
Lane music Hall people were trying to entertain us, at great expense to our Club, a number of
members and guests were talking and refused to be quiet when asked to stop.
This is unacceptable. Please be better behaved in December.

Can I also remind members that you are responsible for your guests and need to ensure the
dress code expected for Club events is met by them. This is smart dress, with jackets and
ties obligatory. We are a great Club which has just celebrated our 150 birthday, let’s keep
                                                                th
the standards up and keep our great Club going for many more years to come.

    Dr Payne / Club Captain
