Finally we welcome our guest speaker Geoff Miller, former Derbyshire, Essex and England cricketer.
As a right-arm off-break bowler he took over 1000 first class wickets and held over 300 catches as
well as scoring over 14,000 runs. Apart from cricket, his greatest attribute was to keep his team mates
amused with his dry northern humour to maintain a light hearted perspective when the game got too
serious – we look forward to hearing your stories later.
And finally could I ask all members of the Pickwick Bicycle Club to stand and raise a glass – the toast
is…’Our Guests’.
From what has been reported to me, the guest speaker,
Geoffrey Miller, was particularly funny, a fact that has
caused me to sink even deeper into the depths of
anguish at having missed him – although, due to the
unique Connaught acoustics, I seldom hear, or even
understand what they say !
As ever, with a response by the President and a word
or two from the Captain, the meeting ended with the
joyful singing of Auld Lang Syne.

Would anyone know who left his machine by the
Connaught’s garden gate and forgot to collect it for
the journey home after lunch?
