CYCLING CHAMPION ALSO
CHAMP AT ANNUAL GOLF DAY
The Annual Pickwick Bicycle Club Golf Day was
once again held at the delightful Harpenden
Common Golf Club, complete with its plush new
clubhouse, on 13th June 2013.
A total of seventeen Pickwickians attended and,
together with guests, thirty-four sat down to a
luncheon of Tomato and Pesto soup, Cajun prawns, © Stan Rose
Lamb Shank and Apple Tart prepared by chef Martin
and his staff who did an excellent job providing food
for us all, including the two members who hadn't
booked!

There were thirteen golfers of whom five were members and one retired member. Five cyclists,
but only two Pickwickians, took part in the ride, arranged by Mr Justice Stareleigh, around the
lanes of Harpenden.
The course, as ever, was in excellent condition, as were some Pickwickians, and generally the
standard of golf was improved this year.
The winner of the prestigious Namby Cup, for the best member's Stableford score, was George
the Father (Chris Wreghitt) who has been the five times National Cyclo-Cross Champion. It would
appear he can turn his hand to golf as well.
The ‘Nearest The Pin’ was won by Samkin for landing his ball no less than five Pickwickian paces
from the pin and Brian Airdrie (guest of Mr Wicks) became the holder of the Crandyke Cup for
achieving the best guest score.
I am pleased to announce that Baillie Mac Something still has a firm grip on Jinkins Balls (the only
trophy which can be awarded in sequential years) for having the worst member’s score of the day.
