Pickwick Bicycle Club Magazine. Volume 10 No.2 July 2013
3
As I write this mid year report, I am hopeful that there are signs that the weather will improve and
that members who wish to ride can look forward to better conditions over the next few months. I
was disappointed to miss the golf/cycle day but understand that those who did attend found it
enjoyable but it would be nice to see more members playing golf, cycling and attending this lunch.
I understand the number of members playing golf were down and perhaps members would like
to let either myself or David Lincoln, (Smithers) the golf organiser know if there are difficulties with
the arrangements including venue, start time, dates etc.
By the time this magazine is received Benson will have been held and I would have hoped to
have seen several members at that function. The cycle ride at the beginning of October is another
opportunity for members to meet and cycle together and I look forward to a good turnout on that
date.
The May function appears to have gone very well but again numbers were not as high as could
be hoped. A few days before the event numbers were well down and I am extremely grateful for
those members who were able to attract more guests and ultimately we achieved an acceptable
number but not the numbers that would be wished for. I would ask for early replies to the December
function and that members please note the priority date and also the cut-off dates for ticket
applications. Not only is it time consuming to have to ask members to assist with further guests
but it is extremely difficult for Mrs Bardell to have to alter table sittings to accommodate the
additional guests. She does a splendid job and copes admirably well in difficult circumstances.
I am aware that your President and Deputy President are considering smaller social gatherings
later in the year, possibly including a Dickens Museum visit, visits to hostelries frequented by Mr
Pickwick on his travels and also a possible London walk of Dicken’s haunts. Details will be sent
out when available. On the subject of club contact, I do have a relatively comprehensive list of
emails. There are still some members who have not provided email addresses. It is appreciated
that not all members have an email but if you have not received emails from me in the past and
have an email address I would be very pleased to receive details. Not only does this save the
club postage costs but it means members can be advised on a regular basis of events, changes
to circumstances at short notice etc. The club may rest assured that full compliance with data
protection is adhered to and the full email list is only available to club officers and will only be used
for club circulars.
How many members have looked at the club website (pickwickbc.org.uk). There is a members
only section on that website and password details are available. If you do not know the password
please send me or Stephen Bullen (steve@stephenbullen.com) requesting details of the password.
I do hope that you enjoy the summer and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible either
at Benson or on the cycle day and more particularly on some of the social events that our officers
are planning for the Autumn.
