                                 A pre-lunch snack on route

The Lost Boys with friends The Diana Fountain

My thanks go to my two guests Andy and Keith, who sat at the rear of the ride to keep us all
together along the way. However, about half-way, Andy reported to me that the 3 pennies had
gone missing! When later questioned “the lost boys“ had arranged an impromptu race around
the Dianna Fountain, to recreate the 1877 Race from the Hampton Court meet of that year,
whilst totally ignoring the direction the rest of us had taken . Now I’ve lived in the area for 60+
years, and know the park well, but they managed to find parts I’ve never been to !!! Knowing
that the three of them had been on the ride many times, I was convinced it wouldn’t be long
before they showed up at our pit stop at The Star in Hampton Hill, for a pint and a sandwich.
Five minutes later and my assumption was correct. After heading back through the park to the
Thames Yacht Club to reassemble with the road riders and other guests, we prepared for lunch,

It was good to see Mr Brooks and family, plus Ballie-Mac Something with their guests, join
us for the meal, by our new caterers“ Hampton Hampers “, who served us with Roasted
pepper and tomato soup, steak, mushroom and ale pudding, followed by apple crumble and
custard; all washed down with a suitable red wine.
A good day was had by all, with the last guests leaving around 5 o’clock. My thanks to Pruffle
for his help in organising the event and a Thank You to all members, who supported the event.
    See you all next year.

And now….rarely do we hear much about the sometimes mentioned Lycra Louts ride into
the Surrey Hills other than they went very fast, climbed a lot of hills and still had time tea,
coffee and a plentiful repast of cakes, returning for lunch as if they had simply taken a
stroll along the Thames. BUT….this year, a newly appointed member The Bagman, was
coerced into writing about their exploits , and their tales of derring do…….. in a strangely
    titled:
