Your Immediate Past President Reviews His 2 years in Office
For most of my two years as President of your Club, I have been furloughed with little
opportunity to meet and greet members in our normal way. Despite this, there has been
much to do to keep in contact with you all, in the hope of a return to near normal times once
again.
The clash of this wretched pandemic with our 150 celebration year was most untimely,
th
but clearly it was completely out of our control. Importantly, we have survived another
challenge in our history and live to ride again, as the oldest extant cycling Club in the world!
I have kept in touch with you all, by referring to our Membership Book 2020 which is an
important record of our membership 150 years on from that founding day of 22 June 1870

Having cancelled the President’s Luncheon 2020 we were determined to meet in 2021, so
the President’s Dinner was held on Zoom with over 100 members and 200 guests attending.
The beer, pies and port were well received and we were entertained by Hal Cruttenden.
Although it was well received by members, you can’t replace a physical meeting, so we hope
it will be the first and last virtual President’s Dinner!
While the club normally keeps out of the limelight, I managed to appear on the front page
of The Times, riding my Penny Farthing, dressed in club uniform. I hope that it brought a
smile to your face!
