You will have noticed on page 9 that at the AGM, a great stalwart of the Club, Peter
Magnus was made an Honorary Member. Below is a response from him:
Dear Winkle Snr
It came as a great surprise when the Honourable Secretary stated that the last item on
the AGM agenda was,“That the Executive Committee have awarded Peter Magnus
Honorary Membership of the Pickwick Bicycle Club for the contribution of supplying
special menus and items he had produced for the Golf day , Hampton Court ride and other
PBC events”.
I, Peter Magnus, am grateful for that honour and thank the committee profusely. I do
get some satisfaction when I produce an unusual menu and then 20 years later, visit a
fellow club member and see the menu framed and hanging on the wall. Also when members
ask for second copies.
I did announce at the meeting that the late Harold Scott had amassed a collection of over
1,800 Medals and Badges. Some of the medals where donated by some very distinguished
cyclists and clubs, or purchased from various sources. Harold appointed three Trustees to
safeguard the collection from dispersal. These medals are displayed at Brookland’s race-
track Museum and well worth a visit. I was one of the appointed trustees.!!!!!!!!!
With my advancing age the thoughts of safeguarding that trust worried me, so I asked our
secretary if the Pickwick Bicycle Club could take on the duties of trustees.! This I am please
to say, has been accomplished and three members of the BPC are now trustees. Thank you
to The Executive Committee of the PBC! for making one member very happy, and solving
one’s problem,
Peter Magnus/Past President ! (Aka Keith Robins) !!
