The 150 Anniversary of the PBC in 2020
Past President Samkin, addressed the AGM to enlighten those
present about the special committee’s plans for the above event.
A number of actions have already been undertaken, and some
expenditure from Club funds has already been accounted for. So
to simplify things the following list helps to focus on the current
situation.
1) A commemorative pin badge has been commissioned and delivered by Fattorini-
Birmingham.
2) A bound goat skin leather ledger is a WIP from a bookbinder to record the names of
all members on the 22nd June 2020 and all new members from that day forward.
3) A Club Bell has been commissioned at the Whitechapel Foundry (now based in
Bromley!).
4) All Club memorabilia is to be digitalised and hopefully produced in book format for
members.
5) Clay Pipes – after much research someone has been found at Liverpool University
who has the necessary moulds and is prepared to make a staggering 600 pipes over
the next 2 years.
6) Possibility of a Pickwick Ale, Porter and Victorian Gin is being evaluated. (By Whom?)
7) As with the cartoons in Pickwick Papers and historical Club archives, it is proposed
that we have an illustrator/cartoonist document the year 2020. If anybody has a
cartoonist contact, please let Samkin know asap.
8) Small regional events are being assessed (20 to 30 members only) in locations fitting
a cycling club and a Dickens association - ideas to Samkin.
9) The Spring Lunch to have ‘entertainment’ of a similar kind to the Dickens
Bicentenary Presidents Luncheon in 2012.
th
10) Possibility of a bicycle ride on June 24 at Hackney Downs.
