Regardless, the stay was enjoyable with highlights being great companionship, a sightseeing
coach trip, exploring the old town, good food at a variety of restaurants, and finally, on our
last day, an excellent view of the Le Tour caravan and rider parade. The latter with thanks to
Google Street View allowing us to locate a restaurant in Le Grand Place on the route and grab
a table at the road edge ahead of the crowds.
Tour Caravan Riders in the Grand Place
With the fun over and no taxis available due to road closures for the race, we trekked the 1
kilometre with our rolling luggage to the station for the journey back to London where we said
our goodbyes and travelled on to our homes.
Hopefully with life getting back to normal, next year will attract additional members to join
in with this enjoyable event. Le Tour 2023 will start in Bilbao with day 3 ending somewhere as
yet undefined in the French Basque country. The remainder of the route is expected to be
published in October when we can look at options for an interesting trip.
