Passing of friends………
Once again we have had to say goodbye to a few more Club members during the past
months. Your Secretary has passed on condolences on behalf of the Club to their
respective families.
Ron Webb/ Mr Griggs - in March - message here from Justice Stareleigh,
“Sorry to say that Ron passed away this morning (March 1st); whilst being in a nursing home
for the last few months and in declining health, he was recovering from pneumonia and he
passed away in his sleep. He was an internaHonally famous track designer and builder, and his
claim to fame was that every indoor world record was held on one of his tracks. He came over
from Australia in the 1950's as a racer and with quite a lot of success, then progressed to
organising teams and bringing over Aussie teams. In later years he helped formulate and
organise "The Tour Down Under”, Australia’s leading and internaHonally recognised cycle
race. Whilst being a genuine Pickwickian, he was a giant of the cycling world, and if he
befriended you, you had a friend for life.”
Ron Gray ,Mr JusHce Stareleigh.
