The interim of two years hadn’t dimmed the quality of fayre at the Connaught, as they
delivered us an excellent meal of citrus salmon gravalux with dressing, creamed white onion,
leek and scallion soup with truffle cream, followed by the seasonal sliced turkey and all the
usual items to fill our plates. Christmas pudding plus mince pies sated our hunger.

During our dining, Dumkins was in action on
behalf of the President who wished to take wine
with all Past Presidents. Then it was the turn of
Charley the Pot-Boy to welcome the guests,
which included A number of notable names,
including the inimitable Phil Liggett, well known
to all in the world of competitive cycling - a
guest of The Justice Stareleigh. before asking
all Club members to raise their glasses to our
guests. See pp29 for the full list.

Secretary Sergeant Buzfuz was then called upon to
announce the five new members being elected into the Club.
Tim Clark was given the soubriquet of Prince Bladud, and
Martin Chaldecott that of Welps, but unfortunately neither
of them were able to attend the luncheon. Of those present,
James Harman is now known as Thomas Burton; Paul
Woodman (he of the baker’s bike complete with bread at the
Hampton Court ride) becomes Ramsey, and Jeremy White, at
the special request of the late Keith Robbin’s wife, will now
carry the name of Peter Magnus. We welcome them all to
the Club and as usual hope they will help to maintain and
    continue its traditions.

Dumkins then rang the bell again to
bring the gathering to attention, and
sing The Old Brigade, as two of the
                           inimitable Chelsea Pensioners,
                           accompanied by Mr Trundle, marched
to the top table with the Joseph Atto
Punch Bowl. As always they announced
their regiment(s), rank, number & age
before being toasted by the President.
It must be me, but they do seem to be
                           getting younger!
