Several letters received for this issue for which I thank you, and some of them have resulted
in articles elsewhere in the magazine. However we do have an abbreviated letter here from
Mr Brooks relating to other news items.

      My Dear Mr Winkle,

In addition to the Joseph Atto topic, I would advise that as stated at the AGM, the
Club has acquired the Past President’s medal of Gilbert Hitchcock CBE (aka Mr Grundy)
who had been President in 1988/9. At the time Mr Grundy was living in Hemel
Hempstead, but the medal was sold at auction in Stockport near Manchester. I am sure
there are many older members who remember Mr Grundy, and I wonder if any of them
knew him well enough to explain when he managed to move from Hemel Hempstead to
Stockport, or possibly if it was just some of his effects that were moved on or after his
death. Perhaps some members have such information and could enlighten us as to the
      travel of his medal?

I also enclose a photograph of The Downs (Hotel) when it was still trading as a pub. I
can’t quite recall when I took the photograph, although I assume it was when the original
plaque commemorating the first meeting of Club was unveiled. Although there is no sign
of the plaque on the wall. A mystery but perhaps you can use the photograph in a future
      issue of the magazine?
      Kind regards
      Mr Brooks

Thank you Mr Brooks, let’s hope that some member(s) may recall Mr Grundy and can
help explain the 180miles missing link. The Downs picture appears on page 30.
