The Benson Veteran Cycle Ride………
!
Back in 2010 the BVCC celebrated it’s 50th
Anniversary, (see programme on the right) with over
200 riders taking part including several members of
our own illustrious Club. In fact Mr Brooks was so keen
he appears to have ridden two bicycles around the
course!
!
Last year we had six entries and excellent weather.
Yours truly rode around the course keeping a watchful
eye on events and ensuring that I got to the
refreshments stops first.
!
It would be good for the Club if we could get some
more supporters out to Benson , Oxon, on the 5th July
this year to enjoy a gentle ride, a Pit Stop at Ewelme
and Lunch at The Lamb in Chalgrove, before returning
to Benson for the awards ceremony. Make sure you
remember the date and if you have any questions contact - Mr Brooks / 01962 774224.

A Cautionary Tale………..
!
!
An Extract from Cycling Magazine October 1914…..“ He was no Gentleman”
!
It was reported that a barman from Watford who, having walked 120miles and
worn out his boots, appropriated a lady’s bicycle, which he later exchanged for a
gentleman’s bike, thinking that it would be more suitable for his needs. In view
of these actions, he was certainly no gentleman so even the suitability of the
latter machine maybe doubted.
!
He was of course caught and had two convictions recorded against him.
