here now follow several tributes to our past President Mr Trundle
TWhen silence fell in the Connaught Rooms at the last Christmas luncheon to
respect the passing of Barry Brandon I thought of all the wonderful times we had
shared together. Nobody lives for ever, but we all hope we will. In November of
last year The Pickwick Bicycle Club lost its longest serving member Barry Brandon
alias Mr Trundle, when he passed away aged 83 years, after eighteen months of ill
health. Mr Trundle was no ordinary Pickwickian he loved the functions and served
the club with the utmost devotion. He is the only man to have been President
twice and was Captain for 20 years, a position he cherished and rubber stamped
with his own style.
Barry was my friend, a kinder man you would never meet. Our friendship started
in 1969 when I decided to change sponsors, which I did, signing for his company,
Bantel which manufactured toys. The team launch took place in The Bunny Club,
Park Lane during October and so one of the most successful and famous teams
of the seventies, was launched-The Bantel Black Cats, as they were known. Barry
loved being around the team and he remained my sponsor for the rest of my
professional career, where I won 3 World Titles for him and a bronze.
