The 143rd Annual Garden Party……
he December Garden Party started as always with the trumpets –this year
it was the turn of the Life Guards once more, so the regal sound of two
Ttrumpets beckoned everyone to the table. Well most of them, as a number
were somewhat reticent, thus delaying the arrival of the President and his chief
guest.
Finally we were all ensconced at our allocated table places, the President, Samuel
Pickwick Esq heralded by a cacophony of noise –yes some people were still talking,
closely accompanied by the Chief Guest – Fergus Slattery – he of Irish rugby
fame. Maybe it was his size and presence plus the awareness of how hard rugby
players can be, that silenced erupted across the room.
This isn’t the microphone…… That’s more like it……..
Hardly were we seated when the Original member arrived, somewhat more
sedately this year….yes, he pushed his machine rather than trying to ride it
around the tables. He was duly requested to join us for lunch, although I did
wonder why he can’t just order a ticket like the rest of us; always turning up late
