In addition we had an Antipodean visitor in Brian McKeever, guest of Mr Phunky who
chose to travel all the way from Down Under to join us for lunch - we hope you think
it was worth it! The final mention went to a guest of Mr Brooks, Ian Compton. As you
are aware the Captain has on the top table a bugle horn from days of old, with which
to keep members & guest in order, and Ian’s company Keats Hunting Horns
manufacture said bugles but not for controlling cyclists anymore. Dr Payne felt this
should be drawn to the attention of the assembled diners, since “Ian is very modest
and doesn’t like to blow his own trumpet”. Mmm…. the entertainment usually comes
       later!

Following on from the special opening of the membership list, seven new members
were sworn in by Sgt Buzfuz, and required to uphold the traditions of the Club.
(Their names will appear later in this issue).

To the disjointed rendering of the ‘Old Brigade’, Mr Dumkins led in the Boys in Red
from the Chelsea Hospital, with the Joseph
Atto Punchbowl. They duly gave their details
and were toasted by the President, before
one of them gave us an impromptu poetic tale
to much applause from everyone. The singing
for their exit was much stronger.

The principal guest was then introduced – Paul Boardman,
allegedly the worst goalkeeper at Plymouth Argyll signed by the
then manager, legendary goalkeeper Peter Shilton. Cries of “You
cannot be serious” were heard, but whatever he was like as a
goalie – he was an excellent speaker and regaled us with an
assortment of stories, both fact & fiction, before proposing the
toast on behalf of the guests, to the “Immortal Memory of……”
Thanks Paul, you did us proud.
