Past Presidents Lunch…………………
Past President Samkin, recently informed me of an illustrious gathering held in
London at the Lamb & Flag, on the 29th July. There were no less than 14 past
Presidents, our current President and his deputy attending this luncheon
The hostelry is another London pub with Dickens
connections since it was one of his regular watering
holes. It has been on the site since 1772, and was
renowned in the 19th century for bare knuckle fighting,
and earned its nickname of ‘The Bucket of Blood’. Samkin
advises that it was an excellent Pickwickian style lunch,
and “little blood was spilt” on this occasion as they
discussed the well being of the Club.
Those present included: President Samuel Pickwick
Tom Martin, Sergeant Buzfuz, Augustus Snodgrass,
Samkin, Jack Martin, Baillie Mac Something, Mr Staple,
Dismal Jemmy, Mr Brooks, Mr Ayresleigh, Thomas
Groffin, Peter Magnus, Joseph Smiggers Esq PVPMPC,
Blink, and Deputy President Bullman.
It did occur to your Editor that such an august gathering in one place was a high risk
situation for the Club - even Royalty divide their duties to avoid such a situation.
However Samkin assured me that they all survived and arrived home safely.
