A Special display at the Royal Yacht Club
There was a surprise for the participants of the Hampton
Court Ride, when they arrived at the Yacht Club. Firstly
there was a blue Peugeot Bianchi Team Car in the car park,
and then an excellent display within, remembering one of
cycling’s greatest cyclists, ‘Il Campionissimo’, that was
Fausto Coppi, when he appeared at the Herne Hill Track in
September 1958.

As many of you will know, Fausto Coppi was an
all round racing cyclist winning many of the
‘big’ races multiple times. His exploits
dominated the sport either side of WW2, so
what would he had achieved, if his career
The great man’s track bike hadn’t been interrupted by the War? He died
of malaria at the early age of 40 in 1960.
