                              Thoughts from the Editor………
Difficult to know where to begin, since there have been so little
possibilities for any activity within the Club during what should
have been such a memorable year for us all. What a devastating
situation the Coronavirus has caused across the world? I only
hope that all of you and your families have survived this
                           unprecedented situation.
If there were any moments of sunshine during the past year,
then I suppose that albeit surprisingly the events actually managed to take place. The Tour
de France, the Giro & the Vuelta gave us some of the most exciting cycling we’ve seen for a
long time. Just such a pity that many of us were unable to be there to watch the races
unfold, and see several new British cyclists at the very top of their profession. Chapeau to
Tao Geoghegan Hart, winner of the Giro, and well done to Hugh Carthy in the Vuelta. British
riders continue to be serious contenders in pro’ Cycling across the World.

I hope that you will find this issue of particular interest, with details of new Club
silverware acquisitions, several historical items and a new feature - a ‘One to One’ with one
of the Club’s evergreen characters, as we discuss his cycling history - socially distanced of
course! Also on page20, you will find an extract from Bicycling News of 1887 portraying one
of our founder members, Lamartine Yeoman, kindly sent to me by Samuel Pickwick Esq,

Whilst there were no Club events to look back on, there is an Events programme further
on in this issue, although these will all be subject once again, to any government restrictions
in place at the time. We can only hope that with proper obeyance of the regulations, and an
acceleration of the vaccination programme, we will achieve as many of these plans as
possible in the coming months. In the meantime, I would just say, enjoy the summer, but
stay safe, stay well and whenever you can, stay cycling!
