Here are a couple of scans from old postcards, very kindly sent by a non-member,
Dr.M.Brooks, of Israel, who is the founder of the Hackney Society. (A historical society).

The Downs Hotel is, of
course, the site of the
founding of our great club
in 1870.

Although now redeveloped,
It is understood that the fascia
Is still recognisable.

The Mitford Tavern was the club Headquarters in and beyond 1872. The building is no
longer there, having been replaced by flats.

Plans are in hand to visit
these old sites of the early
H.Q.s of the club later this
year to obtain photos of the
current buildings for our
archives.
