A Secretarial Report

A somewhat belated seasonal greetings. As I stated at the AGM the club is in a healthy
position and most members seem keen to participate. Out of a possible 180 active members
over 140 attended the annual Garden party and all but 5 members replied with apologise if
they could not attend. The varied room layout seemed to work well and the general
response is that the food and service was a lot better.
We shall repeat the format, which means numbers are strictly limited to 550 on a first
come first served basis. Tickets are likely to be restricted to 5 to each member. The
dates for this year are back to our usual second Thursday in May (12 ) and first Thursday
th
st
in December (1 ). As usual the AGM will precede the Garden Party in December at 11.00
a.m. Members are reminded of the luncheon attendance rules; in that you must without good
excuse, attend at least one luncheon in three. Failure may be deemed to be a resignation,
which we try to avoid. We can accommodate as many guests as members want in May. We
are always delighted to see the Retired members who are welcome at luncheons at any time.
The membership list is still closed. The last of the last names of potential members on
the old list will be introduced in May, when the first of the new names, suggested during
the short period the list was open last January, will be interviewed. Just over 30 names
where put forward and an electronic random selection has prepared a list. Sponsors of the
first few names will be written to before the end of February.
I have circulated details of information the club currently holds about members. It is
hoped that you have all returned the forms as when received, we will be producing a new
handbook which will include preferred telephone numbers and e-mail
addresses. If you have not returned this form it may delay the printing.
Please return it even if there are no alterations required.
Finally we are close to booking both speakers for the year. May’s
speaker has not yet formally confirmed, but I am delighted that with
the help of Samuel Pickwick the comedian Dominic Holland has been
secured for The Garden party. Check him out on the web site a highly
acclaimed performer.
I hope to see you at as many functions as possible this year. Buzfuz
